Half-time score: U20 32-33 BC Tauras

Tolka Top Performer: Ethan Farrelly

A completely changed roster from last Thursday saw many players making their U20 debut tonight. Huge shoutout to Joseph Giltenane, Tadhg Sanchez, Dakota Callaly, Cian Byrne and Niall Bartley on excellent debut performances tonight!

Faced by a 2-3 zone defence, Tolka relied on Kourouma’s 3 point shooting to get us started. Sam Badejo put up a dominant performance in the paint. Down low he was unstoppable , getting the opposition in foul trouble. It was an unusual start with 3 techs being given in the first 6 minutes of the game, the lads struggled to set up properly which resulted in a sub-par first-half performance. Rebounding was a key problem, despite our size even their smallest player was out rebounding us. After some hot-shooting, it was BC Tauras who led at the half.

Nevertheless, in the second half Tolka turned the game around. Coaches Kevin Ashton and Tom Kenny put in the necessary changes to change the game around completely. Profiting off our speed and athleticism we got out on the fast break for many easy baskets in transition. Elijah Faapito , as usual was a point god, dropping dimes left, right and centre and tonight he even took a massive charge!! Ethan Farrelly was unguardable tonight offensively, dropping 26 points, including 2 3s and 3 and-1s. Every time he got the ball he was a huge scoring threat and he really showed how versatile he is, being able to score in the paint, in the midrange and from deep! Unfortunately, Tauras finished the game with 4 players due to their foul-trouble, despite this they fought very hard until the end thanks to good coaching from our very own Rory Howe! Tadhg Sanchez was our closer tonight scoring 6 points in the 4th quarter and nice baskets from Dakota Callaly, Aidan Geraghty and Joseph Giltenane sealed the game for Tolka.

Coach Kev officially entered himself in the Shaqtin MVP race tonight after receiving a tech from the ref during our timeout! He is now definitely in the ref’s bad books! #Menace!!!
Our next game is against UCD Marian next Wednesday. Tip-off is at 8.50 in Tolka, make sure to be there to support!!
